“My destination is no longer a place, rather a new way of seeing” – Marcel Proust.
Irish painter Debbie Chapman has long been struck by Marcel Proust’s quote about developing new perspectives, and recent global events have brought his words into even sharper focus. Her newest work looks at our response to having our movements restricted, and simultaneously, the opportunity to view the world through a new lens. While sometimes we make time to contemplate life’s bigger questions, it’s the gradual accumulation of micro-reflections that create our view of the world, and these thoughtful pauses often go unnoticed.
This is the subject of her new paintings showing at The Montenotte Hotel for the rest of 2020. In line with the government guidelines on contact tracing, we will require to take all the relevant details at booking stage.
