The opening of this year’s Master of Architecture Exhibition will be the highlight of our Culture Night Programme. Visitors can expect an array of drawings and films that describe new architectural proposals for a number of Irish Islands under the thematic of Islands Unknown.
This year the Master of Architecture students have been considering a number of Irish Islands under the thematic of ‘Islands Unknown’. While we normally have a fairly stable idea of what the term Island means – most often referring to a fixed geographical condition, this year we considered their alternative status as places of sacred and mythological construction, fantastical aesthetic contradiction, sub-altern geopolitical fields, and environments of ecological multiplicity. They are the paradigmatic topos that exist across children’s literature, mythology, theology, utopian and cultural treatises.
Different readings and interpretations of these themes will be presented in the architectural projects on display as part of our Culture Night offering.
